The last time we talked with Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy, he warned that we were just months away from the irreversible loss of democracy in America. Today, even in the middle of an authoritarian takeover, he’s optimistic, because people are stepping up — and with millions in the streets, it’s harder for authoritarians to act. But, Murphy says, if we’re going to treat the disease that Trumpism is a mere symptom of, we can’t just go back — we need to build a better version of democracy, and that means stepping up, joining in, and rebuilding the “habit of association” we’ve lost.
If you want to hear from one of the Democratic Party’s strongest voices right now, you won’t want to miss this one. Just click on the video player above to watch the entire conversation. And as the Senator told us, get out there, get involved in something political, and join something non-political — push back against the deadly notion that consumption equals citizenship.
