Listen for the rhymes

A spontaneous community Q and A about abandonment, the last American glue, and how to hear the rhymes in our cries of pain

Earlier I hopped on here impromptu to read out loud my New York Times essay and talk to folks about some of the ideas there.

Because of copyright law, I had to excise the reading of the article, but I’m happy to share the little conversation we had afterward.

It’s about how to listen for the rhymes beneath so many of our different experiences.

As I say in the video, this is what my new book, MAN IN THE MIRROR, is really about: this shared sense of abandonment we all feel, told through the story of an incident that reveals the country itself — and I think will show you to yourself.

It’s scary trying to put work like this into the world, but having this community makes it less so. If you are able and haven’t yet, it would mean the world to me if you pre-ordered MAN IN THE MIRROR today. You are the vanguard whose choices now will determine how many other readers get to see the book in the media and in stores.

Thank you for always having my back.
