WATCH: How to king-proof America, now and forever

Senator Chris Murphy on fighting the authoritarian takeover, remaking the Democratic Party, and how you, today, can cure the disease that led to Trumpism

The last time we talked with Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy, he warned that we were just months away from the irreversible loss of democracy in America. Today, even in the middle of an authoritarian takeover, he’s optimistic, because people are stepping up — and with millions in the streets, it’s harder for authoritarians to act. But, Murphy says, if we’re going to treat the disease that Trumpism is a mere symptom of, we can’t just go back — we need to build a better version of democracy, and that means stepping up, joining in, and rebuilding the “habit of association” we’ve lost.
