The wonderful thing that is NOT terrible is that the urgency and the horror of what is going on is making me really pay attention to, and reaffirm, what matters most to me--as a human and as an American! There is a weird kind of patriotism rising up in me (after earlier disgust and shame) and yeah, it's like a good spring sap rising up that is going to leaf and bloom. And the other not terrible thing that I'm experiencing is a deepening of personal connections; real people, real friendships, dinners together, conversations, laughing (!!), crafting and knitting to dissipate the stress...that's some GOOD STUFF.
In response to the "Don't tread on me" folks, our wonderful lobbyist for the teacher's union would say, "No permanent friends, no permanent enemies." We need to form alliances where we can.
Hi Anand and Ink folks, I am new to this community, originally from West Orange, N.J. but living for a long time away up here in Maine. Big shout out to Liz from Bloomfield! I love what you're doing--you and your friend are a big inspiration.
Anand, your question about what children are absorbing of the nightmares we live with has been on my mind so much. Thanks for the question and to the child psychiatrist for her response.
Today I attended the weekly protest at congressman schweikert's office in Scottsdale Arizona. An amazing way to start off the week. Went with a good friend, it was the first for both of us. It was an incredible experience, felt so empowered being with like-minded individuals with the same goal. There wasn't anybody under 50 years old there. Truly amazed at all of the 60-year-olds and 70 year old Plus folks showing up with this commitment to fight for our democracy. I can't tell you how much of a feeling of hope it gave me.
Anand you are so good at orchestrating these responses from folks. Bravo! And I love the creative ideas and hospitality Liz and her neighbors are using in NJ! Sparks ideas for use in our own communities! Was surprised and delighted to see a nearby yard sign here in Helena, Montana saying, "Fork off Elon/ Feds Stand Strong," just the other day! Onward All!
Dear Anand: I am the person who called in when Anat was on the live show last week. I have follow up about how being joyful can bring people in. I have had the most amazing experience handing out April 5 protest flyers to everyone, everywhere. We each have our own version of Anat's intelligence, authenticity and energy. We all need to BRING IT!
We won't get our America Back as much as we will get the America our founders envisioned along with all that we have widened our understanding to embrace. This is in large part a moral crusade, without moralizing. Thanks Anand. Watching this was empowering.
I think we actually have a myth in America that people are not easily subjugated. I think there is an unacknowledged tension between wanting independence and freedom and wanting someone else to figure out the big problems and wanting the security of a known structure. And also NOT wanting to be subjugated can lead in various directions. I think we need a lot more humbleness and cooperation and willingness to listen.
HUGE shoutout to NJ Liz! I may be in TN now, but once a Jersey girl, always a Jersey girl. Love the idea of showing up with nothing but generosity—no asks, just impact!
This is just the medicine I needed today. The decency is rising across the land. Grab every moment of inspiration and caring and keep up the good fight. Thank you, Anand.
I am loving hearing this woman from NJ! You are inspiring us!!! How can I get in touch with Liz?

I had no idea Denver would turn out in such tremendous numbers. So thrilled and hopeful.
I was there in Tucson with Bernie and AOC!
