Apologies for that — it looks like not everyone received an alert when the Live video began, we've had this glitch before and have been trying to run it down with Substack.
I haven't read the book but did read Klein's March NYT Opinion piece. One of the things that stayed with me was his comparison of home prices in Texas and California. He stated, as if the virtue of this is self-evident, that Houston has no building code and it's "easy" to build there. The NYT has reported repeatedly on the widespread devastation from flooding suffered in the greater Houston area both in and beyond the official flood zones. A UC Davis report cited "runaway development and lack of hydrologic planning." I hope Klein's book is thoughtfully written, but this aspect of the Opinion piece struck me as glib.
I was at a doctor appointment during the live feed. Is it possible to watch this event after the fact? Will the recordings be saved for viewing at a later date?
Hi! I take care of my 92 yr old dad with dementia and we were enjoying a latte out on a patio but my heart was with the podcast! But I want to hear it. Do you tape and post it? I can’t seem to find it. Thanks! Looking forward to reading the book, but I might mention it is a free listen on Spotify for anyone with a subscription. They have lots of audios! Thank you for all you do.
To sign up for the book club, do we need to do anything in addition to being a paid subscriber? I don't see a specific link to join the club. Also, my library has a 22-week wait for the audio version of the book. I wanted to let you know that I'm finding it extremely helpful when other Substack writers choose to record to audio at least some of their posts; I'm a disabled but very active reader. Would you be willing to record in the way that Robert Hubbell or Heather Cox Richardson is doing, even if only once a week? Thanks for your consideration. I'd like to experience all of your articles, but I'll be delighted with even a subset. I'm enjoying your video interviews because I can listen without using my eyes
No, that's all you need to do — the book club is open to all paid Ink subscribers. We haven't had the bandwidth to do our own voiceovers yet — have you tried the built-in text-to-speech tool? I know that the app allows you to generate an audio version (and it seems to do a fairly good job), but we would be curious to know what your experience of that has been as someone with a lot of experience as an audiobook reader.
Thank you very much for your quick reply, Michael! I'm a bit "tech-challenged," so I'm not sure where the app to which you refer resides. Is this an app on Substack or external to that interface? I only own a Chromebook (no smartphone, no tablet), so I'm not using the Substack app, which appears to require a mobile device. Nevertheless, somehow I'm able to open a browser window on my Chromebook and watch the live video events (sometimes they're choppy and need refreshing, but they run) when I get an email alert that there's a livestream. I'm usually late since I'm not always monitoring my inbox, but I have enjoyed several events so far. I haven't located the text-to-speech Chromebook tool, which I'm sure would be very robotic in tone and cadence. I know I should learn to use that.... Again, thanks. Something to consider: there may be members of this community who'd be willing to volunteer time to record a limited selection of articles for you. I fully understand that your small team doesn't have the bandwidth currently. Thanks for all of the hard work you're doing! I appreciate you!
So glad you have started this club. I am reading the book now and it is most interesting. I'll be looking to see where we go in this format. Hope it works.
The conversation was so all over the place as were the comments in the chat. Clearly participants understanding of the ideas in the book, understanding of how government at all levels works, general understanding of US economy and political history is so disparate I don't understand how there could be a meaningful conversation that would go anywhere.
I can’t get in. No link. No alert. Damn
same here

Can you post a link for the replay? I can not find that either. Thank you.

We had a lot of technical issues on this one which we’re fixing for next outing. Sorry for the delay!

The Ezra Klein podcast talking to Zephyr Teachout and Saikat C is good to listen to along with reading ZT’s review of the book.

Yes, we plan on saving and posting going forward. Today's video had some issues given the connectivity problems so it will take a bit of cleanup.
Thanks, Michael.

I would like Anand to be part of each book discussion.
Can’t find link.
Where’s the link to join the meeting?
How do we join. Will you be sending alink?
I'm waiting for Abundance to arrive so I might be a few steps behind.
I’m sorry I missed the live. My book is on the way. I’ll be listening to the recording.

Oh no, missed the discussion this MORNING on Pacific time. Will there be a recording?
Here you go, we've posted the edited video — apologies if the discussion time wasn't clear in the posts https://the.ink/p/the-ink-book-club-introducing-abundance

That is definitely a challenge. Next time there will be more structure. Meantime thanks for your feedback.
I have to agree with you!
