The journalist and author unpacks it all: "Hands off!", corporate media, why Black people are tired of being "moral mules," and what a real opposition would do
also see: Dunning-Kruger effect. "The Dunning-Kruger effect is when people don't recognize the nature and extent of gaps in their own knowledge. Donald Trump is one of the best known examples of the DK effect. One classic example that comes to mind is when he said ``I know more than the generals do.''
I want a regular show! Like you have with Ruth and Anat. What I most miss about Joy is that her unique perspective was accessible----"same time, same channel. If you both give me that regular diet, I might survive her absence from MSNBC.
Joy is awesome, and yes come on Anand’s show regularly please! Actually I need to just read Joy’s Substack. From this college educated white woman—I loved Kamala too and Hillary and I wanted them so so so much to be president. I thought I was going to lose my mind when we re-elected Donald F—-ing Trump. I agree with you that white supremacy is such a terrible force in America and quite frankly I don’t blame black people if they want to stay out of this right now. Honestly so true: white people made this mess, we should clean it up for a change! lol but Black people, please don’t stay out of the resistance because we need everyone, hugs and love to you 93%ers!
Joy, I know y’all are tired and disillusioned and none of it is just but in the immortal words of Satchal Page , “Feets don’t fail me now.” (Don’t fail U.S. now)
YES! White people need to have those uncomfortable conversations and put themselves in vulnerable positions we are in all the time. I’m tired of the excuse “I just don’t want to talk about politics bc I don’t want to cause a riff.” Fuck that!
I agree wholeheartedly about watching some international news. Understand that the world does not revolve around the US, and they have struggles just like us; in fact, worse.
American exceptionalism does not exist anymore. I just want us to be a fair and moral country at this point.
Anand... you're so right about the courage of this country. It's not going to be learned from our government officials or even our President. Look around and you'll see individual examples of courage everywhere. Strive not to have an exceptional country - there is too much you cannot control there - but be exceptional and brave people.
I agree with some other posters. Joe needs to be a regular!!
I understand, but the propaganda stream feeding into white youth streams, primarily boys, is profound. Their knowledge of historical struggles being overcome to provide the improved lives for everyone is barely adequate.
Ex. Their misunderstanding of what an authoritarian looks like and connecting it what Trump et al were repeated was non existent. That is a series of dots that were not connected by politicians; when they say they want to do xyz, what that will mean is going to a past where your life will look like this. And we know that because this is what it looked like in 1968. When minorities were systemically hurt and ignored. Or understanding the scapegoating by Reagan. They have no idea what that even looked like.
Reason I know this? I went back to masters program from 2022-2024 and saw apathy and confusion of what an R was advocating for ALL OVER university campus. They have very little historical context. So they buy into the false equivalencies and sane washing of media eco streams into their phones.
Joy just hit on a subject that I've been pushing for years. Corporations have to go. They haven't been around for ever and need to go. It would solve a lot of public information issues.

Omg, so true! Sounds like something G Carlin would say top😀

Thank you for the summary post. I feel the same. My ancestors were abolitionists and I'm trying my best to stay informed and resisting.
Please bring Joy into The Ink chat room as often as you can. Thx

Would love a regular show with her.
So good to see and hear you, Joy!

Yes, international news rocks.

Truly a joyful interview.

So great to see Joy here in this space! What a dynamite conversation. Thank you! ❤️
