One would think there exists some sort of plan, possibly in an old Pentagon file cabinet, of what to do in the event of a non-military coup? Between our past history with confederate secession, perceived threats posed during and after WW II, paranoia over communist infiltration of the government, and subsequent Cold War, zilcho contingency in the event of a rogue president?

It just so happens that Putin and Xi Jinping also want to destroy USAID because that will weaken America and lessen our influence around the world. Isn’t it odd that Trump/Musk do things that please our greatest enemies and make us weak? Funny how that always seems to be the case.

I am having such a hard time understanding how Trump is doing all these illegal things and no one is filing injunctions? If it’s illegal, why aren’t we pursuing the matter in the courts? This is nuts. Do we not have enough lawyers?

There are many injunctions, and there is a lot going on before the courts now and sure to be much more. It's just one area for pushback though — the real authority in this area falls to Congress. https://portal.ct.gov/ag/press-releases/2025-press-releases/attorney-general-tong-announces-initial-victory-in-lawsuit-challenging-trump-funding-freeze

Senators Van Hollen and Schatz and others are at USAID this afternoon, speaking on the illegality of Musk's takeover and trying to assert Congressional power. They're in the minority, obviously, and their latitude to act is limited, but they do seem to be in the street.

It’s clear the First Felon is making good on his white supremacy promises and who better to help him but Musk. The hate of people of color runs deep and wide in MAGA world. Ending a foreign aid program that helps any people of color will no long be allowed.

I agree with everyone who is outraged about this. It helps when these articles are written to suggest something We Can Do!!

ACLU's focus is slightly different, but there's a good basic guide to getting involved here — organize, call and write your reps (even if it seems like they may not be on your side) stay informed.

Where is the opposition? Where are the Democrats? Trump is engaging in illegal actions and he is getting away with it.

Where is Gary Peters (MI)? He's part of homeland security and allowing a non-citizen (Elon Musk) to drive the dismembering of USAID? Totally Illegal, unconstitutional, and a betrayal of MY Rights to a FAIR government!

AID funds some of our highest ranked NGO’s like CARE and Catholic Relief services and groups like UNICEF and the Global Fund for malaria, TB, and HIV. Think small groups of nuns or community volunteers giving food, clean water, and bed nets to poor kids in remote Africa or Asia. Makes friends for the US, and we benefit from the new meds and disease control. AID’s budget is less than 1% of US government budget and does so much for so many. Remind me not to trust a Tesla.

ople are pushing back: Federal workers are physically blocking the doors to the Office of Personnel Management. James Dennehy, who heads up the FBI’s New York field office, has told his agents to stand firm and resist the illegal firings. A host of lawsuits are in motion

Why aren’t elected Democrats supporting and actively managing the response to these illegal firings.

Unfortunately, Democrats who voted with Republicans on the Laken Riley Act - like Ossoff & Fetterman - are the 2025 versions of Neville Chamberlain, who thought he could avert WWII with his strategy of appeasement. I am sure that Trump sees the Democrats’ voting with Republicans to go along to get along, or voting “not present”, or simply remaining silent as clear signs of weakness continue to dismantle the rule of law.

Join an organization with the membership, determination and leadership to oppose the oligarchic, authoritarian actions of Trump/Musk. I suggest a coalition including MoveOn, Indivisible, National Nurses United, Working Families Party and the American Federation of Teachers. Go to indivisi.org/choosetofight. Their current project is to defeat Russell Vought, author of Project 2025.

He opposes Medicare, Medicaid, Head Start, Meals on Wheels and much more.

We should not be surprised. Anyone doubt that the reason, Musks (mom and boys) left when the end of apartheid was fast approaching. The opportunity for a reprise in USA must be compelling for Musk and his ilk.

at this point we need to focus on slamming our members of Congress, and on planning to do what they apparently will not! everything else is secondary if we can't defend ourselves - this is the No. 1 priority

cabinet picks, Tariff battles, Greenland, Musk taking over our financial information, all the blatant conflicts of interest, Trump's attack on the media, the steps to erase the history of, and any references to, DEI - the list goes on - none of this matters if we do not get our shit together within and outside of Congress and call a STOP to everything - we are becoming very good at building an informed citizenship, but we need to decide whether we are going to do something - it will only get worse -
