Maybe we don’t talk enough about winning by losing. We need the encouragement of being able to see the small victories as progress, even though they may seem to be overturned immediately. And I love AOC!
Wonderful piece, Anand. What is missing from the progressive movement is a critique of U.S. foreign policy. I think even AOC is afraid to take on the military-industrial complex and the expansionist corporate agenda that allows military spending to grow U.S. debt (ironically, making us MORE vulnerable to our "enemies," not less, and social problems too expensive to fix because war comes first).
Related to this is BRICS. The most consequential alliance in history is ignored by the media and our politicians. Progressives must push for the U.S. to join the multipolar alliance. They must explain to their constituents why only the changes proposed by BRICS (an end to punitive sanctions, for example) can save mankind from the dangers we ALL face from climate change and nuclear war. Likewise, the widening wealth gap is not just an American problem. It is also a European problem
Progressives must explain to Americans why respect for the sovereignty of all nations (Venezuela, Cuba and Iran, included) is key to securing global peace. No nation has the right to force another into submission unless that nation is threatening other global stability, as the U.S. does and always did, especially under Biden. (See, for example, the Ukraine proxy war against Russia.) We should not only get out of Ukraine but dismantle NATO, which has no purpose beyond plumping the inflated egos of a handful of European elites who do the bidding of entities like Black Rock, AIPAC, Big Ag, Big Tech, and Big OIl.
Progressives much explain how not only working Americans but ordinary Europeans, too, have been devastated by all these conflicts and lied to about their real purpose. Even now we don't discuss Nordstream 2, whose destruction Biden took credit for, just as he crowed about how a war in Ukraine would lead to regime change in Russia and the end of the monster Putin.
