I haven’t lived through McCarthyism or other historical parallels, but the similarities are striking and unsettling. What feels especially urgent now is the subculture of hatred growing right under our noses. In memes, gaming spaces, and online irony, that feeds directly into this McCarthyist spirit. She was bold in her words and delivery and 6 additional MALE Senators sign onto the document in affirmation. McCarthy was present and he did NOT last. The document is easily found on Google. BTW the 75th anniversary of that delivery was marked, at least in my heart, this June 1, 2025.

I am afraid of something far worse than McCarthy, which in the annals of American political repression is pretty mild. I am afraid of what happened to those who dissented against World War One, and the domestic war that Woodrow Wilson unleashed on them. People were lynched, run out of town by vigilante mobs, tarred and feathered, the offices of anti-war organizations were wrecked, the post office denied mailing rights to the dissenting press, people were deported, Eugene Debs the 1912 candidate of the Socialist Party was railroaded into federal prison, labor was smashed, race riots flourished, and the foundations of the surveillance state were laid. So we are afraid of what may happen? You have no idea of how bad it can get.

Charlie Kirk established Professor Watchlist to identify faculty who MAGA believe are "radical". Some faculty on it have been harassed and received death threats. Heather Cox Richardson is on it.
I keep thinking that at some point, those in power are going to be able to stop your broadcasts as well as any others they don't like. I am far from an expert on how easy it would be to do this, but I would think all you would need is the cooperation of those who control the satellite networks. What in the world could any of us do then? Isn't that what they do in China, i.e. control what is distributed and what isn't?
Although McCarthy preceded me, I have heard that he nationally destroyed a lot of optimism and trust with his "communist" accusations. He ruined people's lives, a la Salem Witch Trials, with false accusations. Amazing that now, this prez is SIDING with Putin! McCarthy must be rolling over in his grave, as we face what appears to be our "friendship" with communism. That pendulum swung the other way, as pendulums do. I'm waiting, not so patiently, for the pendulum to swing back over to the other side.
