I’m so happy I’m going to meet many of you at one of the current tour stops. I hear all of you about the places I’m not yet coming. But two things: One, this is just a starter list, and the list grows with time. But second: If you want me to come to your city, get a great local bookstore or other institution to invite me! Unfortunately, I can’t just show up and start declaiming in the town square. Someone generally has to host you. So if I’m not coming to the South right now, for example, or Philly, or wherever, it’s not because of me; it’s because we don’t have a host yet, and publishers have very limited budgets these days to send you places! I would be more than thrilled to make these other places happen if you all have bookstores or other venues you love that would love to host.
If you’d send me some info I could share it with both the American Library and Shakespeare & Co. I’m just myself though - don’t have money to fund such an adventure. I’m very involved (and have been for years) with helping to Get Out the Vote in the Paris area. I live just 25 minutes west of Paris.

In the meantime I have a question about abandonment: feeling abandoned includes the notion that one felt held or attended to or safe in some way at some point in the past. That feeling of safety is gone; that's what abandonment is, to my mind. Is that what you mean when you use the word? If so, who or what was causing us to feel safe or protected such that now we feel abandoned?

It’s called Book Passages and the owners Bill and Elaine Petrocelli would be welcoming hosts. Just an idea. Isabel Allende is a good friend and is bring her new book to a gathering next week.
