The problem with high-stakes PR and the extensive wordsmithing involved in messaging is that at the end of the day, it is a sick family therapy exercise. PR doesn't solve the rotten core of the problem. Instead, it capitalizes on a space for the guilty to focus their mental energy, so that they don't have to face their own demons.
Ilene is right, though the damage and the family legacy is irreversible.
At higher financial echelons everyone involved must have taken advanced degrees in “poor me, I didn’t do anything bad or wrong. “ This family reflects a cultural deficit that appears to be a common affliction among the monied elite. When was the last time anyone in high governmental positions was held accountable? Think 2008 Wall Street Crash. Iraq invasion and war, Flint Water poisoning. And Agent Chaos’s tsunamis. The Sacklers and their ilk dwell in a world uncontaminated by pungent knowledge of our lives. We are commodities. Becoming lemons when we put up a group stink over their offensive destructiveness upon our beating heart lives and livelihoods. Throw the whole family in the clink - part accountability come uppance —part sociology/psychology resident internship in the living realities of the 99%.
My partner became addicted to oxy after 20 years of sobriety, prescribed casually by an orthopedic doc for a shoulder injury. He ultimately had additional surgery just to keep his supply coming. He committed suicide at age 45 a month later. A likely preventable death and yet so common. I wish victims could address this family personally in a "truth and reconciliation" element to forcing their accountability.
Can someone help me understand why these kinds of drugs are still being sold? I keep reading about how dangerous opioids are and about how evil the people who make them are, but why doesn’t the government stop it?
Oxycontin and oxycodone are life changing inventions , and I thank the Sackler family .
