This is genuinely the most hopeful I've felt since November 2016.

I watched every Dem victory speech (those of NJ, VA and NYC) last night. None came even close to Mamdani's in recognizing (1) the plight of the working class (2) people power and (3) waking up that power to affect real change. Other Dems need to capture the way that Mamdani highlights inclusivity in a way that feels completely genuine. It was as true to the "us, not me" vibe that one can actually articulate. Mamdani's win and his speech filled me with such hope. However, I realize there will be many attempts to kneecap him at all costs and not just by Republicans--but by corporate Dems, as well. Hopefully, the power of the people in huge numbers--his supporters, constituents and his administration--will help quell/stall the opposition.

I also got that sense of the we. He said if Trump wants to attack NYC, he will have to go through us all, not just him! 💖

Anand you should say “yes” when Mayor Mamdani ask you to be his Director of Public Affairs.

What was clearly evident was the succinctness of your reply with the meandering, off-topic hit-and-miss of Morning Joe.

The fact that on the eve of the election so many talked about how closeraces were -- despite reputable polls that said otherwise -- is attributable to GOP dominance over current press narratives. E.g., MSM publications were quick to elevate the very dubious Atlas Intel poll. Nate Silver’s Silver Bulletin speculated that New Jersey might be moving toward becoming the next swing state. People who know better have incentives that have favored the right's narrative.

Some MAGAs waking up to the fraud & authoritarianism before '26?

More Blue tsunami is what’s needed. In the NJ Govs race every county shifted Blue from the ’24 presidential by as much as 18%

Trumpism: Cruelty & chaos, hunger games, terrorizing kids protecting pedophiles & self enriching fraud. https://open.substack.com/pub/paulkrugman/p/the-big-smirk?r=aexlz&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=false

Get up stand up & resist the fraudster authoritarians. Vote Blue!

Eyes on the prize. Turn the House & Senate Blue in '26.

I agree with Nancy Joyce (below) about hope, which I do have some of for the first time (vis-a-vis the national scene) in a long time. Yay. But what I'm feeling along with that is how much I've been breathing what feels like methane, for a looooong time (even during Biden, which I suspect I'll realize more and more was suuuuuch an oxygen-deprived spate of time for me, and maybe I'll realize "how" and "what that meant" (I'm writing a novel sortta about that feeling/time and also loss of formerly-held (probably stupid "faith" in fantasy) and so. . . just saying: it's great, and eerie, and hopeful, and staggery, all at once, to be here, today, feeling/breathing differently. I'm grateful. Thanks, The Ink/Anand and all of you here.

Experience? Trump has experience? MLK was in his 30s, AOC was 29 when first elected. Etc. Good mentors and yes, the talents of others are key.

CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT NOW !!!! Get money out of politics. There’s never been a more overt example of the consequences of rich folks determining our fate than the pictures from this week: citizens being denied food, about to get hit with unaffordable health insurance while rich people stuff their bejeweled faces with canapés and bottomless plates at Mar a lago. While Trump shoes off the gold and marble bathroom and increases the budget on his ballroom, while politicians are given luxury military housing paid for by taxpayers. THIS IS THE TIME.
