I appreciate Paul's use of the personal ("erratic and abusive") because it offers a distinction between the normal operations of nation-states and what the U.S.'s figurehead is doing, which is going rogue and ignoring the structure of his own country. The adjectives obviously apply to his behavior to U.S. citizens, as well.
I also appreciate Anand's question about what other countries, particularly European countries, could do to help the U.S. not descend further into fascism. It's not simply a question of charity but also of self-interest. Is the rest of the world ready to discount all US citizens because we (sort of) elected someone with a bullying personality and a disregard for any rule or law that does not give him supreme authority? Then again, maybe they need to see that we are willing to shoulder the hard work ourselves first. Perhaps, in this and in many ways, Minneapolis is sowing the seeds.
Just a note of thanks for all the hard work going into these interviews, Anand (and team).
I think that is what making people wake up is the two state sanctioned assassinations we all witnessed. AND the blatant LIES that followed only minute after the horrific videos were posted.
When Anand questioned the reluctance of other democracies to offer more tangible support to the resistance in America, I think about how slow the US was to come to the aid of Britain and the rest of Europe before our entry into WWII. Read Erik Larson’s The Splendid And The Vile about Britain enduring The Blitz to feel some comparison.
If the deportation had been done in a humanely way, we wouldn't see the kind of fight-back action that we are now seeing. The regime was/is stupid to carry out such a draconian manner of deporting undocumented people. It's the total lack of humanity...of having totally forgotten we are all human beings and do care about others (for the most part...certainly not all)...that has brought about the fall of this regime. And we will keep it up. Make sure you have March 28th NO KINGS DAY 3 on your calendars. Let's get 11 million of us out in the streets that day.
Wonderful conversation, thx
