After all, our politicians claimed, political promises, have been broken so many times that The People have rightly lost Trust. The data show a downward trend for the past 50 years. What can he do to bullet-proof his promises? Simple. Make this PLEDGE: If I don't keep my promise on Affordable Health Care, or Education or Living Wage Jobs ...) I WILL RESIGN. Moreover, I'll tell my constituency exactly who and what has blocked me and who benefits by that. Does this mean I'm a quitter? No!. How will you know? I PLEDGE to tell my constituency and the nation what's blocking progress, who's behind it and why - on a weekly basis. We've reached a point in our politics that Americans need a Performance Guarantee. Hell, you even get one on a dish-washer. Americans don't like to be stuck with an equivocator for years. We want Progress on our majority issues and we don't want to be fooled again. If Abu is elected - and he's smart - he'll convince his righteous, freshmen colleagues to join him. Call it The Pledge of Honesty. The message they send by doing this will undoubtedly inform voters of all stripes the role of Big Money Donations in blocking The Common Will and the Common Good.
I love this guy. He got my attention during your first interview with him when he plainly and succinctly diagnosed the disease ravaging American democracy: money in politics is why broadly popular policies never ever succeed, despite who's in office. It explained so much that was puzzling to me and made it all click into place. To have a candidate who truly sees that, says it, and is fully committed to the cure is everything right now!
"Look, my vision at the end is simple. What would America look like if we behaved as though all of our kids were all of our kids? What would we build? What would we have? How would we make decisions? That’s what I want to see."
What a compelling person - so glad this man decided to get involved in Democratic politics. He is going places (hopefully to Senate!) and Michiganders (and the rest of us!) will be better off because of that!
This was a thorough and informative interview and I thank you for that. It is 100% correct that Citizens United is the foundation of the loss of so much that has defined our democracy and has been the engine that has propelled exactly what the public distrusts about government. That and the cultural divisions that one party has successfully promoted to divert voters' attention from the average American's ability to achieve a satisfying middle class life for themselves and their families. I have family members who live in the same community and attended school and payed sports with El Sayed and his description of being thoroughly immersed in different cultures is both accurate and instructive. We would all be wiser and more understanding if we were fortunate to grow up experiencing much the same.

Each time I have heard El-Sayed, I have been more impressed; your interview confirmed my belief that he is extraordinarily talented and wise. He is exactly the kind of person we need in the Senate--and throughout the government--to begin to rein in the destruction of our systems and priorities that emerged when Ronald Reagan was elected, grew under his successor Republican presidents, and metastasized under trump.
