Finally! I have never been on X/twitter, having always seen its danger, but I am appalled when I see it being used by those who should oppose everything Musk is doing to our country. It is most galling to see on the web sites of Democrats in Congress who should be fighting DOGE every single day.
I gave up Amazon in February and have found NO NEED to miss it. I'm so glad I broke the spell of the "fast-food mentality" - "have it your way and RIGHT AWAY". My finances are grateful and my cupboards are NOT bare! No social media either. I'm checking out BlueSky at the moment only due to a couple folks to reach me for meetings. Substack is the only news source besides NPR I give time to - Wasting time is NOT a good habit - reading books and walking for breathing fresh air is better for health for sure as is singing!
Indeed, Anand. Ghandhi could tell us a lot about "the power and promise of collective non-cooperation." It's called---non-violent resistance. Historical precedents: Slowdowns, national strikes, boycotts, sit-ins, and creating a new normal via creating a widespread, alternative social narrative. Any, but preferably all of these will tip the scales in our favor.
THANK YOU, WALEED (AND ANAND)! YES! EVERYONE LEAVE X, like EXiting a toxic relationship! Make X the EX-platform! Meanwhile, X is invading and infiltrating the SSA! Isn’t THAT illegal??? If not just plain anti-democratic???
Going on X is one thing.., Just don’t use X.. In fact, don’t depend on social media. That’s why there are two industries that refer to the consumer base as users.. tech and drugs.. The platform is the needle. The algorithm is the mix. The subscription is the dose..And the Chief Revenue Officer is the cook, mixing it all up.. keeping as strung out, with veins open, long enough until the insurance runs out. Musk is both symptom and problem. Mutates.. like a virus.. just like that next thing social media tells people have to run out and buy. It’ll be better with AI..;-)
This reminds me of the poem about war, where a little girl asks; "what if 'they' hold a war and nobody comes?" Well? If you all who use x leave they can say any hot-air thing they want and x will not be as effective with Europeans off (of x). The Europeans are loads smarter about these things than we are, they still bear real scars from conflicts caused by these sort of regimes, and can still see daily reminders of what those regimes mean. Call IN your pals who are left leaning to stop the habit. It does not matter yet that the alternatives are not as dominating, that is a good thing right? Monopolies do not serve anyone right or left.. and if you ask me, some of the things that we decry may be what we wish for, only "our flavor"? It is easy for me to say leave it I have never used x or any other social media like this. (Facebook was temporarily and seldom used - a waste of time for me, so I ditched it.)
I left Twitter. I never joined X. And I'm not some outlier as far as I can tell. All my friends did the exact same thing. I'm not left wing. I don't police other people's word choices or beliefs. I'm sort of confused as to why anyone thinks X is anything but a bigger Truth Social, with for some reason some normies bleating into the void.
I did completely stop shopping at Amazon, which was more difficult. Social media is all an absolute drain on the psyche, destroyer of calm minds. When I left all social media many years ago, I thought myself "too sensitive" to participate or something. It had been making me depressed, even suicidal. But then I did more reading, and learned what it means, to have your human connections comodified, your attention algorithmically exploited, and I realized, no it was never a me-problem. That shit is evil and we all need to simply walk away. If there's one cause of the long-term undermining of our democracy in the United States, it's social media. As long as people keep feeding it, it will keep feeding off of us, dividing us, using us for no purpose but the enrichment of the already super-wealthy.
I have never used X nor Twitter but I use Amazon as I am old and mobility impaired. It is a rare day when I can get to a store other than a grocery store. When a family member comes - and that is twice a year - we visit - do not spend time with. mindless shopping looking at things I do not need. However since they have children and live in a very highly taxed state - we do some shopping for them. I order coffee online and keep in touch with a few long time friends who live far away via "social media". As for Musk and Trump - may. their days be numbered and diminish rapidly to be remembered as one remembers a nightmare.
I left Amazon, FB and instagram, X - and don’t miss them at all. I am very active on Substack and Bluesky. I do have to remind people from time to time that I can’t open the posts they forward.
I’d like to de- normalize the use of these platforms by progressive politicians and activists. I’m disappointed when I go to something like Indivisible and their protest information is only available on FB.
I disconnected from FB a long time ago as I saw its spread of factless information. Not a user of Twitter or X, not only because of a generational difference but because I divide my reading time between online and printed. I learned a while back it is a good way to use different aspects of your brain for processing.
Would be great to see X posters interested in diminishing Elon’s profile taking a time out from X.
Yes! As a former X user, I’ve wondered why important progressives remain on the platform. I’ve followed them as they migrated to Bluesky and Substack. Not difficult.

I don't use X/twitter either. Great ideas to withdraw attention from Musk. Maybe The Ink can lead the way???

Indivisible showed us the way. Top progressives still on X need a pressure campaign to move, for sure! https://indivisible.org/resource/stepping-back-x-formerly-twitter

What is the EXIT Date ?
TODAY IS GOOD
Have never used Twitter/X, never will; for the same reason I don’t get my news from curated sound bites on TV.
TY Brother!👏🏾🔥
I left X months ago. Now I worry I will miss a social security announcement of some sort.
