The Maryland governor on the future of his party, fighting Donald Trump with action rather than protest, and whether he will run for president if George Clooney keeps insisting
Thanks for another great conversation. I found myself having a couple reactions, one general, the other more specific. On the general front, I appreciate so much the Governor’s focus on “Getting S*** Done” (paraphrasing, FTR!). And, I am wary of what I hear and experience as a centrist reliance on the work speaking for itself. We have a lot of evidence now to the contrary, and I worry that many Dems continue to lack the “pull” feature of a clear and enticing vision. A more micro, but perhaps related, point? I heard the Governor say he supported policies to address “unfairness” in several ways, and while I agree with him, I find justification based on fairness can devolve into arguments around what is fair for whom under what circumstances. It would be more powerful, to me, to hear an argument for SNAP and school lunches, for example, based what world we want to create and live in. I, for one, want to live in a country that understands it can only be great if it is the home of new ideas, and more new ideas will arise from minds that aren’t handicapped by hunger. I want to live in a country that defines its richness not only by the health of its most wealthy bank accounts but also by the health of its least wealthy children. I’m riffing here . . . But something along those lines? . . .
A person focused on immediate leadership and productivity today and progress now rather than being distracted by playing politics ... is wholly appealing.
I learned a lot in this interview, thank you, and I hope to see/hear more of him on Substack-thanks for this 'scoop' AG. I didn't know about Gov Moore's background-and it was very interesting to hear the two of you talk about the 'Robinhood Fndn' (what an audacious name FFS)-straight talk about where the wealth came from-and what he has done via tax changes in MD, and clearing off 175K cannabis charges, etc. His childhood background and what happened to his father b/c of inadequate healthcare, is not a unique event, ongoing and as wrong as ever. Mad props for giving Harriet Tubman her due as GENERAL Tubman 👏🏾👏🏾🔥 I heard clearly he doesn't belong to either 'party' and for good reason as he explained. This is exactly what needs to be corrected by the Dems-he wasn't even 'invited' to run! I completely respect that he 'knows himself' and respects himself enough to TRUST his own internal sense of what is the Right Thing To Do. I'm with George on him-but we shall see. In the meantime it's great to see that the state of MD has a person of his quality, intelligence, and ability to take action in meaningful ways. (I cannot say that about my own Gov in CA and he'll be 'invited' to run...)
Action. Love that. Importantly, he has good examples of some accomplishments (or progress, at least!). Intelligent and so handsome. What a combo. Godspeed, Governor Moore. Also, a big fan of Jamie Raskin. That area has good leaders.
He's right, the people who want the power have been figuring this out for years. We can't sit and talk, we have to do. We have to do more that will stop what is happening until we can get in front of it. We need to get these plans of the rich out of power.
Thank you To Keep us on the Ball -Saw you on MSNBC Your message HOPE

Excellent. The contrast between Moore and the fascists is overwhelming. If only......
Great interview! I love Wes’s energy and enthusiasm, and his vision for making positive change for his state.
Great interview as usual. Wes Moore has a lot of talent, suggestions and great leadership ideas.
All governors should take note. This is how to run your state and squeeze out the government of power because all the power will be in the states.

Thank you. This was inspiring and presented practical ways to work through this turbulent time.
He has what it takes
We will see what happens

Why hasn’t the Democratic Party started a shadow cabinet - that could be a way to provide an alternative.

Wonderful conversation-two great humans! “I’m going to fight for people who I may never know their name!” Yes!💖

Enjoyed your conversation with Governor Moore today. He is like a breath of fresh air.
