I feel this existentially, in my bones and my stomach. Your deconstruction of this horrific message is profound. He has also managed to launch our Tuesday with ugliness, and to make us wait until tonight to know how terrible the outcome may be.

to say this is distressing is an understatement. Why are we not all calling senators right now ????? or maybe have him arrested?? are we destined to sit and wait??

Adrienne Heinzelman's avatar

I did call my Senators! Right away!

Me too, and my congresswoman. All Dems, so I don't know what they can do but I had to.

Gigi Flor's avatar

Already did it yesterday. And mine are rational Democrats not lunatic sycophantic Republicans.

Done. For what it's worth.

Every sitting Republican in congress that doesn’t remove the president by tonight needs to be tried for treason and/or crimes against humanity as soon as we can. There has to be consequences or this country will never move beyond this. Trump is one man, the blood is on their hands.

Agree with many comments below but I can't really "like" them. Seems like the wrong term. I'm chilled to my bone waiting for what this deadline will bring. What little sliver of humanity is left amongst these barbarians - Trump, Hegseth, Rubio? The military must step back from this madman's command.

What you say is true, but the damage to the world and to this country will last at least a generation. Most likely I won't live to see the repair. I hope I'm wrong.

No, but everything we can save is worth saving. Our young people are worth saving it for.

A few minority senate voices seem to be indicating on social media that this “must be stopped”, -

We’re on our own now, and have to figure out how to keep it together- mind and body and soul.

We’re on our own and have been for a long, long time now.

We are living this and as you say, it’s like being in a reality show. I don’t even watch them and now I understand why. They are now reality, and his contrived storyline may become more than he bargained for.

It appears when you lack respect for a body of people you under estimate their determination.

The Iranian people are not static, they just got stuck with a cruel leader as did we.

it's hard to believe there will be life on the other side of this- for a long while anyway- if they go through with this it will mean the military is backing them and then without a doubt they come for us here in the US - and they aren't going to worry anymore about how many Americans get shot in the streets (or bombed the more emboldened they get)- if this goes forward it's not just the Iranian civilization that will be destroyed, it will be our own as well- pray for tacos...

Your analysis is welcomed. It is insightful and truthful. This shame will be ours to bear long after 47 leaves office. We have been stamped Trump, sadly, woefully. And the world will go on knowing this. Whatever happens.

I would guess that in fact, Trump didn't compose that without someone else contributing in part. The wording, e.g. "different, smarter, less-radicalized minds", and "We will find out tonight, one of the most important and complex moments in the history of the World" just doesn't sound like him - a person seemingly incapable of and uninterested in complexity and any degree of nuance.

-Other than the curious capitalizations...as in "World".

(edit: But the puerile, expletive-laden rant regarding opening the Strait, I think we can give him full credit for that.)

Anita Martin's avatar

Although, if you notice, that missive contained zero misspellings (including the word strait, which he has continually misspellled as straight), and it used correct punctuation, including the apostrophe on fuckin'. So....?

Bill Apgood's avatar

Maybe someone showed out how to use spellcheck?

It was such a roller coaster waking up to this tweet, and this image from Artemis 2: https://www.nasa.gov/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/art002e009288orig.jpg

The very best of mankind, right next to the very worst of mankind. It's hard to wrap my mind around that duality.

What if he plans to use nuclear weapons? Is there a tomorrow then?

Kathleenmulcahy's avatar

It is beyond me to think that he holds such sway with Congress that they allow this to go on. It could be ended immediately. What secrets could ALL of them have that he may uncover?

Paula B.'s avatar

I think some of them are evangelicals who want to see the world destroyed so Jesus will return. Obviously not all of them, but too many.

The republikkkans in congress need to immediately discover their spine. We have a mad, insane president promising to annihilate a whole country. He has documented his willingness to war crimes and he has no way out of his failed war because he fired all the experts. However inconvenient it is for republikkkans, this monster MUST BE IMPEACHED before he does more serious damage to the world.

Brilliant and disturbingly accurate close reading of Trump’s execution order against an entire people. Hopefully your prediction of the fall of the Trump regime is just as accurate.

Escalate, escalate to get peace? Totally deranged!
