Borrowing from other cultures? Think of the mistakes and failed attempts at parts of all those other countries' Healthcare Systems... Why not have an Independent Bipartisan Commission study Healthcare when it's good and try to adapt that to the US - part of which provides a Single Payer System that covers EVERYTHING?
And another Commission for Social Security/Medicare/Medicaid? FIX what's wrong with these programs and quit bitching about how they stand today that's not working long-term.
These are things the majority of Americans would support... and yet, we get NOTHING from our Congress... except maybe another raise for themselves.
Knowing what to believe about reports on Social Security, and later Medicare, is frustrating due to such disparity in the way different entities put information/statistics together to bring about the conclusions they want to publish - always easier to sort and group info/stats to arrive at a predetermined end. I've been hearing and reading that Social Security will be totally bankrupt within 5 (ish) years since the late 50s, early 60s as I was reaching the age to vote (21, at the time). Plus, how many admins have been allowed to 'borrow' from SS funds and then present it as a rescue rather than a repayment when money went back into SS funds.
I don't understand the reticence on the part of both Houses of Congress to attack the problems with these programs? During the Great Depression, people were literally starving to death on the streets... and the rest of the people sought to prevent that from being an outcome to an American life - especially in old age.
I read how rich the nation is now - especially the billionaire class - and I don't understand the level of greed to sit on your piles of money and do nothing to help those who can't help themselves.
There will always be corruption in these systems... but nothing like what goes on in the billionaires' neighborhoods as we've seen under Trump's "leadership".
