What a beautiful conversation! As the daughter of an immigrant, I was taught to love this country. And I do. But I don't like right now.

Need this deep thinking as part of our lives. How can we incorporate it, sustain it, enhance it? The idea if difference is very new in American psyche -- we were told to melt into the pot -- become what?? (not accepting that Black peoples brought here were told you can't melt in) Now we are finally dealing with difference -- POC & women. This conversation was so satisfying -- thank you! I'd love to throw in an elder thinker's voice in here: Parker Palmer's "Healing the Heart of Democracy" touches on many of the points you brought up here. It's such a relief to hear you both recognize that how we deal with our own inner worlds affects our ability to navigate and embrace difference in others. Taking responsibility for our power and consciously choosing to take care with our words and actions seems foundational to a society we will enjoy living in and that can offer true leadership (not bullying) in the world. Thanks for giving voice to that and so many other important issues!

I agree with every positive comment above! It’s easy to give up on America as a country of moral ideals and the beautiful ‘melting pot’ of diversity that I have always appreciated, but this conversation has re-energized my dream for and activism towards a better, more equitable/peace economy driven society! Also, the electric Momdani victory (and every democratic win/prop 50!) has me energized🤩✊🏽🤩✌🏽🤩

Huge respect to you Anand, but as a woman organizer hugely inspired by your point of view, I'm a bit shocked to see Junot Diaz platformed as someone with multiple sexual abuse and misogynist allegations by multiple women authors against him.

Anand. I have asked you countless times if you can read French. You never answered. But if someone can help you, you have to get your head into this https://www.seuil.com/ouvrage/cyberpunk-le-nouveau-systeme-totalitaire-asma-mhalla/9782021587586
