I don't have the words for how good this discussion was. So much of what they talked about I seem to understand or sense naturally, but I don't think most people do. The explanations were spot on. Thank you for sharing this. I am in turn sharing it where I can.
Thank you so much, Professor Wolfers! I always learn from you, but today you also inspired me. I love that you brought up how your pastor's sermon affected you. For me, prayer / meditation / study (to be at one with God's love) and being of service to others enable me to get through each day. I'm determined to find ways to do more good in these challenging times. With love and gratitude.
Any college graduate with a BS degree in business takes basic economics courses. Unfortunately that’s only a small portion of the US population. Considering voting age is 18, and politics are “the economy stupid”, perhaps it should be taught in high school to ALL students. (Or at least require listening to this conversation!!!)
Wonderful discussion. Especially his comments on everyone having more ability now to impact what happens. I am currently, as a scholar of civil society in other countries, researching a paper on the role of our democratic civil society in the U.S. www.importingdemocracy.org
There's a great cautionary tale on economic data manipulation in the Times by the former head of Greece's national statistical office today; if you followed our conversation yesterday it's very much worth a read: https://www.nytimes.com/2025/08/19/opinion/labor-statistics-data-trump.html
