I think in this time of darkness anyone who can speak out against what the Trump administration is enacting should speak out. Politicians need to make strong statements against cruelty. And reporters can no longer adhere to the traditional ethos of objectivity or neutrality. At this moment, speaking truth to power out weighs impartiality and we can’t afford anything less if we want to hold onto any chance of surviving as a democracy.
Susan, I agree. But the phrase “speaking truth to power” seems vague to me. Sure it should happen and we can easily agree it is a good ‘idea’. I’m thinking speaking that truth needs to be accompanied with how to do it. Write editorials? Take signs to rallies? Complain with friends about where things are headed? What does this “speaking truth” mean anyway?
Hello Paul, I would say all or any of those actions you mention, even complaining to friends can be helpful if not altogether effective, it can help people to not feel alone in the situation. I would add, going to protests, calling members of Congress, attending town halls, supporting politicians and commentators willing to speak out, participating in local and statewide efforts to register people to vote, and supporting independent media. But I was speaking specifically about reporters and journalists who have the platform to call out atrocities when they happen and to speak out regarding what they see when it is wrong. Terry Moran is one of these, but also Jim Acosta, Joy Reid, Jennifer Rubin, and Katy Phang, to name a few. It is also critical, for reporters to not give into corporate dictates prohibiting criticism of the Administration.
I’m very much looking forward to hearing reflections of comptroller Lander. Or Superman as I call him. As he was being assaulted, and his clothes pulled away, I visualized the mild mannered Clark Kent giving way to able-to-leap-tall-faux-law- disenforcement agents… bursting out of his shirt transforming into that familiar Superman red body suit, magic cape majestically lifting him out of their claws! Speaking for Truth. Justice. And the American way??? Oh my. What has it become???
I’m so sorry I’ll miss the Terry Moran interview chat. I’m a follower and supporter of his new endeavors. Landed on his feet quite nicely I’d say! Talk about Speaking Strength to Evil Powers…. 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽. I’ll miss the broadcast because I’ll be working through all of this with my trauma- informed, PTSD specialist, retired Army veteran who served in war torn countries… A SUPERWOMAN in her own right, therapist. There is this grief we all deal with in different ways , ‘midst the growing Hope being an active part of something like THE INK Community. Bravo and thank you Anand, et al. Onward! ♥️💪🏽
Is it possible for you to include "add to calendar" when you have upcoming live events...am having a bear of time, missing live posts as notifications don't seem to work either on my phone (though settings look correct) and on my laptop, despite being subscribed, every time I want to post a comment - I have to.be verified through a code sent to my phone just to post a comment. It's annoying that even with paid memberships cannot get Substack to work more easily. Thanks - look forward to 10:30 live.

I’m with MJoT. Participating by computer is a pain.
Thanks for having Brad Lander on, he IS the best man for the job at this point.
