On Uvalde and the fight for democracy
This morning, I returned to “Morning Joe” to share some thoughts on Uvalde, the gathering threats to democracy, and what we all must do to fight back and win.
Tell me what you think the pro-democracy cause can and must do in the comments.
Certainly I am one of likely (all of us here!) who sees what you and Joe are saying all too clearly, who votes, who writes and calls my representatives. But we are up against a vicious autocratic, and as you say, well funded, extreme right wing. Some say it requires literally millions of us in the streets, and some are rallying groups around that. It's good, along with voting and civic engagement. But honestly, the only thing I understand that stops autocratic movements is PROSECUTION of its corrupt leaders and co-conspirators. I will watch the Jan. 6th Committee's hearings and hope to God that their case is utterly airtight and they can convince the DOJ to hold the LEADERS accountable, including most of all, Trump. It's the most dangerous moment in my lifetime for our democracy and I am 76. I hope we don't pay for complacency with its loss. THANK YOU for your work to raise awareness about this. (P.S. I have been tuned in to Ruth Ben-Ghiat for the straight scoop for a long time now).
I'm sorry. I found YOUR comments powerful and deeply moving, Mr. Giridharadas, but as soon as "Morning Joe" himself started talking--first interrupting you and then droning on about whatever--I couldn't listen any more.
