The Jeffrey Epstein story is a uniquely American one, right? A man born to modest means makes good, becoming unbelievably wealthy and powerful through hard work?

A fiction, of course, the hard work being influence peddling, sex trafficking, perhaps a little light treason.

But it’s also a very global scandal. And one relationship within Epstein’s worldwide web provides the clearest view of how Epstein’s operation worked, the sheer scope of it, and just how damaging it was for the rest of us, everywhere in the world.
