It seems a bit naïve to think that they are actually trying to make us healthy at all. All Signs point to trying to kill many of us off, while looking like they’re trying to do something good. Am I the only one that sees this?

no, MAGA seems to have a goal to kill as many of us as possible through the ways they spend and don't spend $$, what's allowed to be in our food, as well as treatment of immigrants, etc.

Well it depends on who you mean by "they". If you're talking about the current regime, I agree 100%. If you're referring to the public health profession, I totally disagree. Can you clarify?

You get all the crazy with RFK Jr. & MAHA. It's not choose your own adventure. When will anyone get this? This man wants to put my kid on his autism registry. I have zero interests in entertaining these people.

I have to chuckle Anand that you struggle to say epidemiologist, when I can say that easily, but cannont pronounce your surname which you do so eloquently. Thank you for this, I am a retired nurse and was delighted that I was able to predict the answer to your last question. Movement! It helps with so many health issues.

Sorry Anand, I'm an academic physician--and a big fan of Anat Shankar-Osorio...this person wasn't in that league. I've heard her lines from public health people a lot--go to where they are, listen etc. Sure--and you both failed even to mention RFKs dismantling of the vaccine brain trust at the CDC. The question now for public health is: how to deal with that? How do you deal with the resurgence of measles that will results in deaths? How do you message effectively to a public now accustomed to the whims of the powerful and privileged who are in control?

thank you SO much for having Katelyn Jetelina on. Been following her newsletter for a couple months now and appreciate what she has to say about the NON-monolithic nature of MAHA, among many other topics. I wish there had been more time to ask her specifically what health systems in other countries does she think work better and WHAT about them makes them more effective. Please have her on again, and thanks for having her here. The RFK destruction of our nation's health is not going away, and her perspective is essential, I think.

Many people do not eat poorly or excessively but are still overweight or obese. Two people I know eat almost identical diets. One is skinny and the other is overweight. Metabolism is a huge factor, so don’t cast blame.

for years I have had to seek out reputable information on how to live the healthiest lifestyle possible. This in itself is very time consuming as there is a lot of shoddy research, and misinformation out there and one has to be alert to the factors that go into reputable sources. I get vaccines, I go to a physician for my annual physical, blood tests, etc. Yet I also research ways to get and stay healthy using food and supplements. Yet, the issue with supplements is that only a small number of manufacturers are reputable and the other stuff that is out there on grocery store shelves is full of fillers like sawdust and no help whatsoever. It has also been apparent to me for many many years now that big business is interfering with our healthy food choices - from the way most meat is raised, the chemicals that go into food products like cereal for instance -that are banned in Europe and able to be manufactured and sold there without those chemicals (check out Food Babe) and so on. School meal programs are abysmal in my experience with sugary offerings for breakfast - donuts, highly sugared cereals, etc., and terrible food that comes from the govt but is cheap for lunches. Personally, I am privileged in that I can afford to eat organic food from farmer's markets and small producers and I also live in an area with multiple grocery stores and plenty of options. Many in America are not so lucky. I am concerned with RFK Jr because he takes extreme stances, and like you mentioned puts energy into things that aren't going to make much difference or won't happen, as well as wasting our money pursuing avenues regarding autism that have been settled through years of solid research.

I loved this very important discussion on health. Her comments on exercise were amazing. I wrote a book titled Thoughts On: Exercise, Learning, and Mental Health. My research says she is right. Get your body moving and your increased sense of wellbeing will lead you to a healthier life.

We agree on the threats of processed foods. But where do these ills fit into a priority list? I heard a MAGA affiliate debate the word “promote” the public welfare, arguing the meaning of promote was not meant to “provide” the public welfare. So, it seems that “providing” is anathema to the industrialists. This greed, I think, springs from the Jim Crow era.

Thanks for your balanced, insightful comments about GLP1 agonists. That story is not over, despite the orgasmic advertising disguised as science journalism.
