On "Morning Joe," I asked the mayoral hopeful if his #MeToo scandals had changed him, and what he missed about Zohran's appeal. Also, I tried to teach him how to say "Mamdani"
His response to any learning from "Me Too" was utterly unrepentant and demonstrated zero growth or even empathy. Laughably, carefully couched as though he was taking responsibility but in fact all he did was exonerate himself and blame the "sensitivity" of the current zeitgeist.
I walked into our TV room this am, saw Cuomo's face and exploded in outrage. I couldn't believe MSNBC was giving that POS a platform this close to the election. Then, the camera angle widened and I saw you were there and my mood lifted a bit. Then, you started grilling him and I laughed out loud. Well done, Anand! Every question you asked was spot on target. I worked in State government under Cuomo. He is a horrible human being. Thanks for what you did to him. It was a pleasure to watch.
Wow. Your questions were very fair and his answers were shockingly inadequate. “Sensitivities” is his way of being accountable for NOTHING. You nailed it with the framing of the question about self awareness. He could have saved us all time and said that he has zero self awareness. The smugness with which he spoke about Mamdani’s experience shows just how unaware he is about the many accomplishments of his opponent. Excellent work, Anand!!!
His lengthy response to the 'Me, Too' question was primarily about ways to protect himself in the future. Very little revealed about ways he could protect others. I'm glad you corrected him about Mamdani's name. Thank you for demonstrating a respectful way to do so.
Excellent interview, and I am awed by the surgical care you use in framing your questions. You are fearless with choosing topics to ask about, but you state them so kindly and generously that you don't give an opportunity for the respondent to distract with defensiveness. You provided an out in each question. Cuomo sadly has not done enough personal work to benefit from the generosity of your questions, but it was to your credit that we were able to see that. Thank you so much for your skill - and for the humanity that is woven into all of your work. You've been a life preserver in an otherwise frightening time.
I can just hear in my mind the conversation that he must have had with his daughter, where he said oh, I see, you don't understand what I'm saying, so I should just apologize for whatever I say. And his daughter saying no, dear father, you should think about and ask me about why the things that you have said are so offensive.
It's clear (to me, at least) that he takes none of it seriously. Could he really be this dismissive and tone deaf? He deserves to lose massively. I dearly hope Mamdani is prepared for all that's coming at him.
Great questions. Cuomo's weak, infuriating answers made me even more determined to do my part to beat him handily. But I also want to thank you for what you did earlier in the old tired Morning Joe broadcast. You cracked open the ridiculous Morning Joe framing of our protests within the conversation that the authoritarian regime is having -- the "these were not terrorists or Hamas - these are grannies with npr totebags" conversation (so insulting btw) that they were having. You actually said that to them -- that they were basically stuck in the Whitehouse's conversation! Bravo Anand!! Then you pivoted to the positive reasons we were out there -- the freedoms we were marching for, and that people of all ages and walks of life were marching peacefully and joyfully and resisting their outrageous power grab, harms and grift. Acts of courage. THANK YOU! I don't watch Morning Joe much any more because they are stuck in an old paradigm that they can't seem to escape. I record and race through all the blowhard crap...and when I see you I am ready for some relief!!! I so appreciate that they sometimes feature fresh thinking like yours.
Anand should get his own show simply based on the way he handled this interview! Public interviews with older politicians who have zero self awareness and little more honest humility. It’s so rare that an interviewer confronts them directly (I suspect due to network oversight). This is how all those who choose to serve should be confronted. Unemotional, with class, yet directly! Coming from a 67 year old man who who believes there should be term limits on all elected officials.
Good, tough questions Anand. Mr. Cuomo seemed out of sorts during the interview. Also I didn’t understand his persistent attacks on Democrats and what he called their policy failures. Doesn’t seem like a winning strategy for a city where 70% of voters are Democrats.
and beautifully crafted questions - are like a knife cutting through butter… I know Andrew Cuomo from a longtime ago. I could feel his anger /his control to handle your questions. I know it was very hard for him. Good for you as always! Cheers to a master.

Loved hearing your push back on Cuomo especially you correcting his pronunciation.

Really appreciated your courage and tact. It’s one thing to talk brave, another to meet the challenge- delighted to support you.
Great questions! I agree with Ann about your diplomacy. I love your thought processes. That is why I became a subscriber.
Yes. Me, too (very different context but the solidarity is my point. :) )

What a jerk Cuomo proves himself to be—over and over and over again. “Evolving sensitivity?” You arrogant, misogynistic putz.

It was a thing of BEAUTY.
