Normally, I keep these things to myself. What’s the point of sharing them? It’s a privilege to have the platform I do. Receiving hate mail and swipes at your character and even your right to be in the country — it’s all part of being a writer in 2025.
But I thought I might share some of the messages and posts I saw today after I had the audacity to suggest on “Morning Joe” that Donald Trump’s criminality poses a far greater danger to the United States than crime at a 30-year low in Washington, D.C.
Sometimes, you have to correct people, because it would actually be a great honor to be the biggest queer on television. #Goals (need to work on both aspects, though)
These messages were flying at me because the right-wing MAGA press picked up the story and amplified it. What I love about that is they accidentally end up telling the truth to their readers for once. Yes, climate change is far more lethal than D.C. crime!
I tell you all this not so you feel sorry for me. I’m good. I tell you this because, honestly, it’s your support that gives me the independence to write what I write, go on “Morning Joe” and call it like I see it, and more. I have worked for big institutions before, and it’s different there. It’s harder to speak your mind. You, our supporting subscribers, give me that freedom. And you embolden me to ignore the haters.
Haters make me louder. And you make me braver. If you like what we’re building here at The Ink and you want to embolden us even more, consider stepping up and becoming a supporting subscriber today. Let’s get louder — together.
